Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus)

A non-native but self-sustaining species which is supplemented by regularly released birds for hunting. Whilst other Pheasant species are occasionally released, this is the only regularly occurring species to be found throughout the country.

The song, although not truly native to our natural soundscape is familiar to most, and consists of a fast, excited series of gritty-sounding, disyllabic notes given in rhythmic succession, with a brief pause before the last two notes, which are essentially the same as the call, and are louder and more pronounced:
