Grey Heron is Ireland’s tallest bird and is sometimes erroneously referred to as “the crane”, which is in a fact a totally different, unrelated species.

The most typical call (more to follow as we obtain them) of Grey Heron is unmistakable for any other Irish bird. The loud and raspy “kraark” is often given in flight either singly or in a series and can be followed by a series of lower grunt-like versions of the same:
